The Essential Funko Pop Price Guide for 2024

Funko Pops are miniature figurines known for their oversized heads and amplified facial features that give each one a fun and unique look. Since they were released, they have been sought-after collectibles for many, but recently, Funko Pops have exploded in popularity.

This is largely due to the diversity of characters available from massive international franchises from studios such as Marvel and Disney. A diverse selection gives collectors a myriad of collectibles to choose from, bringing their favorite big-screen characters into their homes.

This article will be your ultimate Funko Pop price guide. It will also cover the type of Pop characters available, the factors that influence their retail price, how to get a fair price, and tips for buying and selling these popular collectibles.

Funko Pop Collectibles

Funko Pops were originally released as pure bobbleheads in 1998, but in 2010 that all changed. Funko Inc. moved away from bobbleheads and into cute little pop culture vinyl figures that resonated with fans who enjoy collecting such items.

Shortly after this shift, Funko Pops expanded its range of licensed collectibles to include characters from worldwide and hugely popular franchises from popular studios like DC, Marvel, and Disney, and their popularity grew even more. The expansion into well-known and established franchises led to an explosion of popularity that turned these cute gateway collectibles into a worldwide phenomenon.

As they permeated deeper into pop culture, conventions began to spring up everywhere so people could check out the latest additions and grab a Pop of their favorite superheroes, singers, or video game characters.

In 2021, their unstoppable march culminated in transforming these fun figurines into NFTs and making them true digital collectibles. The future of Funko Pops looks set to rise further, and with it, their current price and their average resale price.

Categories of Funko Pops

Funko Pops come in an extensive range of categories based on a huge range of sources such as movies, video games, sports, and much much more. The popularity of the franchise or character the Funko is based on greatly impacts its value.

Many other factors come into play when it comes to actual prices, such as retirement, variants, and exclusives. A retired model is one that is no longer manufactured. On the other side of the rarity scale, an exclusive model is released via a specific retailer or at a certain convention, while a variant is a modified version of an existing Pop.

Factors Influencing Funko Pop Prices

Numerous factors come into play when determining the price of a Pop, like the condition of the Funko, rarity, popularity, market conditions, and whether it has been retired or signed. These factors can influence whether the Funko you crave is an affordable collectible or a six-figure investment.

Rarity and Exclusivity

The rarer the Funko, the harder it is to get, and the more its price goes up. This is the simple economics of supply and demand, and Pops are not immune to it. Thus, adding a rare or exclusive Funko Pop to your collection will make it a whole lot more valuable.

Some of the rarest and most exclusive Funko Pops out there are Dumbo, Boba Fett, and of course Alex Delarge Clockwork Orange.

Condition and Packaging

When it comes to collectibles of all varieties, the condition is paramount, and Funko Pops are no exception. The condition of the Funko is integral to its value. A mint-condition Funko will fetch a much higher price than a non-mint condition of the same model.

In addition to the condition of the figure itself, the condition of the packaging is equally important. This is because a box that is in good condition is an indicator that it hasn’t been opened and the Funko inside never touched.

Furthermore, the artwork and packaging itself have value and, if damaged, will decrease its worth.

Popularity and Demand

The popularity of a Funko is a key driver of its price. The more popular the character or franchise the Pop belongs to, the higher the demand and, thus, its price.

In the current market Star Wars, Game of Thrones, and Disney are the most popular franchises. Hence, they’re popular and in high demand, making their average resale price higher. As popular figures go into retirement, its scarcity will also drive up the price.

Age and Retired Status

Like a fine wine, over time older Pops can appreciate in value, especially if they become more difficult to obtain. Once a Funko Pop has been retired, it will no longer be made, which will reduce the number of them available and drive up its price.

How to Assess and Compare Funko Pop Prices

Making sure that you’re getting the lowest price possible for your newest addition to your Funko Pop collection is vital. That means being able to accurately assess and compare Funko prices to ensure a fair transaction.

Online Marketplaces and Price Guides

You can buy and sell Funko Pops on pretty much any e-commerce site, such as Amazon and eBay, or you can go directly to the official online Funko store.

The tricky part is not being able to buy them online but determining what price you should pay. The Funko app is a great resource for getting an accurate picture of price guides. However, it’s a good idea to cross-reference with other resources, such as the secondhand site Vinted.

Understanding Price Fluctuations

The primary driver of price fluctuations in Pops is demand. However, many influences may impact that demand, such as new releases, exposure, shifts in cultural trends, and the other factors mentioned above.

Keeping an eye on changing conditions will allow you to identify real-time market pricing fluctuations.

Tips for Beginners

Funko Pops are the ideal collectible for beginners, but if you’re new to the Funko game, figuring out the actual prices that should be paid can be difficult. Here are some practical tips for beginners:

  • Utilize and check multiple sources to gauge prices. This will help gain a more accurate assessment of the actual price.
  • Conduct extensive research on multiple platforms to learn more about the subculture as a whole. This includes price history, current trends, and the like. The more you understand Pops, the better your price judgment will be.
  • Use price tracking tools such as the Funko app to track the value of items in real-time.

Buying and Selling Funko Pops in 2024

Online platforms for selling and buying will most likely play a larger role than in the past. Building a good online reputation as a seller will make you a trusted source and lead to more sales. Promoting online via different platforms will also expand your reach and allow you to sell more Pops.

As a buyer, the best thing you can do is stay informed. Pops are subject to volatility, and if you’re not paying attention to current valuations, you may be overpaying. The Funko app is a great tool for staying up to date with the Pop market.

Where to Buy

When it comes to trusted places to get your Funko fix, the official Funko website is at the top of the list. ToyShnip is another trusted online source with an extensive range of Pops at great prices. Amazon is yet another popular online marketplace for buying Pops. It’s established, and you can check the seller reviews before buying.

If you prefer the old-school feel of going into a store to add to your Funko collection, then Gamestop and Walmart are great options and often stock exclusives.

Selling Tips

The best advice for selling Funko Pops is to keep them in as good a condition as possible. Protect them and their packaging from damage by putting them out of harm’s way and out of direct sunlight.

When it comes time to actually sell the item, be sure to provide in-depth descriptions and high-resolution photos to display it in the best light. Also, by leveraging collector networks via online forums, etc, you can gain insight into the best selling strategies.

Spotting Fakes

There are some telltale signs to look out for when it comes to spotting fakes:

  • Low prices which don’t correlate to the actual price value of the Pop in question.
  • A large selection of rare or valuable Pops is an indicator that they’re fakes.
  • Inspect the packaging for signs of poor quality or typos. If found, it’s likely a fake.

Also, avoid buying directly from China as many products originating from there are notoriously fake.

Predictions and Trends for 2024

A host of new collections have already been slated for release in 2024, including Friends and a slew of NBA players. If Funko Pops’ popularity continues on its current trajectory, you can expect to see more interest and, in turn, more value in collecting them in the future.

On the digital front, as more Funko NFTs are released, this market may experience expansion and drive up the value of digital Pops.

As a long time pop reseller I think You give great advice. However, there is always someone on ebay Selling a “new” pop for way under valued price and that screws up what people will purchase pops for. Although I think they may be fake, uneducated buyers don’t know the difference. I suggest people buy items that have pictures taken buy the seller, not clip art stolen from other platforms..
